Bev Lutz ICF membership provides incredible professional networking opportunities, professional and personal growth, and opportunities to explore my strengths as I volunteer in service of my profession.  My chapter really helps me stay current with coaching, thought leadership, and learn-n-earn (CEU’s) from professional development events.  But it’s the supportive coach-friends and collaborators who have made membership for me priceless. //s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/907122/graphics/BevLutz1_669008720.jpg

Being a member of ICF offers me the opportunity for certification by the industry professional standard bearer; being a member of ICF Minnesota connects me to my professional peers for networking and collaboration.  Membership in both establishes me as “credible” and provides me opportunities to learn and grow.

Presenter Name: Ursula Pottinga, CPCC, PCC
Date: Thursday, Jan 13, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM CST
Location: Zoom
CEU: Pending

Description:

Effective coaching helps clients balance imagination with execution — the dance between the Default Mode Network (our inner “wizard” of reflection, creativity, and meaning-making) and the Task Positive Network (our “builder” of focus, planning, and action). In this session, we’ll explore the neuroscience behind these two brain systems and discover practices that help clients integrate vision with practical steps, transforming inspired dreaming into grounded doing.

Participants will:
Understand the distinct the distinct roles of the Default Mode Network (DMN) and Task Positive Network (TPN) in reflection, creativity, focus, and goal-directed behavior.

Recognize how imbalance between these networks can lead to overthinking, burnout, or lack of follow-through in clients (and themselves).
Explore coaching techniques that intentionally activate each network to support clients  from visioning to action planning.
Practice methods for helping clients move fluidly between dreaming (DMN activation) and doing (TPN activation) to foster inspiration and sustained momentum.
Apply neuroscience-informed strategies to strengthen integration between the two networks, enhancing creativity, clarity, and execution in coaching outcomes

Learning Outcomes:
Explore how the brain’s Default Mode and Task Positive Networks influence creativity, focus, and action in the coaching process.
Experience
practices that help clients and coaches move fluidly between dreaming (visioning and reflection) and doing (clarity and execution).
Practice
neuroscience-informed tools to integrate imagination and purposeful action for more effective, whole-brain coaching conversations.
