Mary Zahorsky
1. What brought you to coaching?
Since 2007, I have been "coaching" truck drivers and support staff about their values when making decisions about their safety and the safety of others on the road throughout their day. My position allowed me to have those (sometimes) difficult conversations that led drivers and their support to decrease their rate of crash events leading to a more robust bottom-line.
What I discovered was a passion for helping others discover their values and live up to their potential, I determined from all of my duties as a Certified Director of Safety (CDS) that coaching was what I was most passionate about so I stepped on the road to certification and accreditation and I haven't looked back.
2. Tell us about your coaching practice. (Niche, ideal client, etc.)
I am a Certified Crash Coach and I deliver confidence, values, and safety-driven results to anyone who is hesitant or nervous about driving after they have experienced a crash.
3. What do you love about your coaching work?
Throughout my career even though I had no way of knowing for sure, I have always loved the idea that maybe with one conversation or powerful question, I saved someone's life today. Coaching brings me that same peace and excitement when I partner with my clients on their journey to regain their confidence, knowing that they again trust in their ability to keep themselves and others on the road safe.
4. Tell us about the coaching tools, books, podcasts, etc. that you follow that helps you to stay informed.
I am currently working on Positive Intelligence certification which helps me remain mentally fit and my clients explore alternate perspectives during difficult situations.
I continue to work closely with Success Unlimited Network (SUN) by participating in Global Skills learning, as well as their Annual Global Retreat. I love our deepest discovery discussions about The Kybalion, by Three Initiates and the joy and learning it brings.
My reading list consists of authors such as Brene Brown, Teri-E Belf, Lou Tice, Falco Tarassaco, Steve Chandler, Richard Leider, Tom Rath, Caroline Myss, Gary John Bishop, and Chris McChesney. Brian Fielkow's Driving to Perfection and Leading People Safely, keep me on track when working to change corporate safety culture or a client's driving mindset.
I hold several safety-related association memberships and I utilize my ICF Global membership that keeps me connected, relevant, and informed.
5. How has ICF-MN helped you as a coach?
I have found a valuable connection to coaches in my area that offer support and kindness.
